Jefferson boys soccer (1-4-1) picked up its first win of the season in the Metro West Conference opener played Thursday evening at Bloomington Stadium as they beat Robbinsdale Cooper 4-1.

Jaguar goals came from Kai Harrington, Collin Anderson, Jack Goedderz and Cole Jungwirth in support of goalkeeper Jake Swanson who made five saves.

Coach Danny Storlien felt it was a great win to start what will be a very competitive conference season.

The win came on the heels of an extra competitive 2-1 loss at Woodbury on Tuesday. Down 2-0, Alexander Skold cut the lead in half with an assist from Ben Staub.

Skold added: “It was a tough game but I’m proud of us for staying in it and fighting all the way to the end. Even though we lost, I think plenty of positives can be drawn from this game that we can build on going forward.”

Despite scoring once in four games to start the season, one look at the schedule gives a very good reason why as Lake Conference powers Wayzata and Edina downed the Jaguars 5-0 and 1-0 in Bloomington the previous week.

The Jaguars have three consecutive home matches starting Thursday, Sept. 14 against Benilde-St. Margaret’s at Bloomington Stadium with a 7 p.m. start before hosting Shakopee and Richfield back at the high school turf field. Jefferson faces Shakopee at 10 a.m. Sept. 16 and Richfield at 4:45 p.m. on Sept. 19.

Kennedy off to 5-2 start
Kennedy posted four straight cleansheets including a 6-0 victory over St. Croix Lutheran on Wednesday at the Kennedy turf field with two goals and an assist from Jimi Molina and a goal and assist from Abdihatah Abdi as eight different players factored in the scoring with a goal or assist.
Kennedy jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first half.

Yael Torres, Johan Tolendano-Solis and Daniel Pliego Ariza scored with assists from Erik Cardoso, Alexis Conde Omana and Erick Fuentes.

The great start to the 2017 campaign hit a snag with a 2-0 loss at Chanhassen on Thursday in the Metro West Conference opener before rebounding with a 2-1 win over Trinity School at River Ridge back at home on the turf field on Saturday. Kevin Cruz Reyes and Pliego Ariza provided the goals with an assist from Fuentes.
