Letter: Edina does not need more luxury apartments

To the Editor:

Dear neighbors,

I understand that the Edina Cleaners building at Sunnyside and France Avenue South –unquestionably an eye sore –may be replaced by a mix of retail shops and some 65 luxury apartments.

As a longtime Morningside resident, I welcome the prospect of a more comely Sunnyside/France corner.

Frankly, I don’t care much how tall nor dense it is.

But I am concerned about who will live there. For a city regularly extolling its devotion to diversity and affordable housing, this seems like an ideal opportunity to add numerous units that people who work, for instance, at Fairview Hospital and the Southdale Mall could afford to rent or buy.

What we surely don’t need more of us “luxury.”
