Richfield Best Buy to host qualifying round for Nintendo World Championships

The Richfield Best Buy is one of eight stores in the country set to host a qualifying round for the Nintendo World Championships.

Thousands of gamers will compete  at Mario Kart 7 as they vie for a spot in the tournament’s finals, scheduled for Oct. 7 in New York City.

The qualifying round hosted by the Richfield Best Buy is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3. Two winners, one who is 12 or younger and one who is 13 or older, will win a trip to New York for the finals.

Participation in the qualifying round is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration begins when the store opens at 10 a.m. Photo identification may be required, and competitors younger than 18 years old must have permission from their parent or legal guardian to play.

The qualifying round will accommodate as many participants as can fit during the competition’s timeframe. Spectators are welcome.

The stores hosting the competition will also be the first retail locations to demo the upcoming titles, Super Mario Odyssey for the Nintendo Switch and Metroid: Samus Returns for the Nintendo 3DS.

The Richfield Best Buy is located at 1000 W. 78th St.
