To the editor:
Anyone that’s received a Sun Current newspaper in the past few weeks is aware of the ongoing situation the Richfield School Board has created by the termination of R-STEM School Outreach Worker Jessi Martinez. While I don’t claim to know all the details, the allegation that she was terminated for her intention to show support for the racial diversity of our community is extremely troubling. Parents of students and other residents in Richfield seem to agree, given the attendance and atmosphere at the School Board Meeting on May 15.
I would remind the school board members and the rest of the Richfield community that they hold publicly elected positions. If the board doesn’t handle this situation to the satisfaction of voters, they might very well find themselves on the wrong side of the ballot box in the next election.
