Eden Prairie Sun Current Stars of the Week for June 15

Denzel Brown
The Eden Prairie senior captured his second state title in the 200-meter dash and added a second 2017 gold medal at the Class AA state track and field meet by winning the 100 dash. He ran person bests in each event, winning the 100 dash in 10.50 seconds and 200 dash in 20.97 seconds.

4×100 relay
Eden Prairie’s 4×100 relay team of Nikhil Tammana, Denzel Brown, D.J. Johnson and Devionne Young posted the top prelims time of 42.24 seconds lowered that time in the finals to 41.97. Mankato West edged the Eagles at the line, taking the state title in 41.95 or two-hundredths of a second.

Girls Lacrosse
Eden Prairie kicked off state tournament play on Tuesday searching to complete the three-peat. The 15-1 Eagles captured the Section 5 title on June 7 with a 17-8 win over Minnetonka. Senior captains Sammie Morton and Naomi Rogge combined for 8 goals and five assists. Sophomore Brooke Lewis added five goals.

The Eden Prairie senior placed 13th in the shot put going 38-8 3/4 at the Class AA state meet on Friday.

Natalie Jacobwith
Eden Prairie’s junior finished 15th in the 400-meter dash in her first trip to the state meet. She clocked a prelims time of 1:00.18.

Boys Lacrosse
Eden Prairie captured its seventh consecutive section title, this time the Section 2 final came down to the Eagles and Minnetonka. Eden Prairie defended its home turf by a 11-6 final on June 7. Seven different players scored including a hat trick and one assist from captain Nick Leiverman, two goals from Ryan Abstein, two goals and two assists from Eric Friswold and two assists from captain Connor Olson.

Baseball
Eden Prairie won three, one-run games to return to the Section 2-4A final. The fourth-seeded Eagles downed No. 5 Shakopee 7-3 on June 7 to capture its third section title in four seasons. Zack Elliott, Mike Espe and Will Pahl combined to go 8-for-11 scoring six runs and drove in three RBIs. Jack Zigan struck out 11 Sabers over 6 2/3 innings.
