League of Women Voters Bloomington will host an Earth Day panel discussion on oil pipelines Tuesday, April 18, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 8400 France Ave.
Light refreshments will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the program 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Environmental effects of oil pipelines, treaty rights of native people and current legislative issues in Minnesota will be discussed. Moderating the panel will be Robert Pilot, host of Native Roots Radio’s I’m Awake, and Lois Norrgard of LWV Bloomington.
Discussing the environmental impact of underground pipelines, will be Alan Anderson, spokesperson for Citizen’s Climate Lobby. Attorney Melissa Lorentz will focus on natural resources and environmental issues on tribal lands. Eryn Wise, organizer with Honor the Earth, will speak about Pipeline 3 across northern Minnesota.
Current legislative issues and action will be addressed by MN 350’s Kathy Hollander, who is the Tar Sands Team Lead and Legislative Liaison. A panel discussion with question-and-answer will follow.
