Students at Hillcrest Community School in Bloomington donated more than 350 bath towels to Bridging, a Bloomington organization that helps people transitioning out of homelessness and poverty.
The project was part of the school’s artful learning curriculum. Bridging founder Fran Heitzman spoke to Hillcrest fourth-graders in December about the impact Bridging has made for many people in the community. He returned recently to collect the towels and thank students for their influence on their community.
Artful learning units are designed around a significant question, such as “How do experiences influence our thinking and choices?”
“Heitzman encouraged Hillcrest students to go out and make a difference,” said Hillcrest teacher Emily Smeltzer. “Our job was to encourage and influence others to take action for a cause that can positively impact the lives of others. The students had a fabulous experience that will add to a lifelong perspective of the choices they make.”
