EP student named national semifinalist for science project

Central Middle School student Avni Jain is one of 300 national semifinalists in the Broadcom MASTERS, a national science and engineering fair competition for middle school students.

As a seventh-grader, Jain placed in the top 10 percent at the Minnesota State Science and Engineering Fair with her science project titled, “Allergen Alert! An Innovation to Assist People with Finding the Correct Food.” Her top ranking made her eligible for review to compete in the Broadcom MASTERS.

More than 2,000 applications were submitted from 36 states and Puerto Rico. Each semifinalist’s application was read and evaluated by a panel of scientists, engineers and educators. From those 300 semifinalists, 30 will be chosen as finalists on Sept. 17. Finalists will present their research and compete in challenges during an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., in October.
