Eden Prairie Soccer Club’s Under-17 girls team held its own against tough opposition in the 2014 USA Cup tournament last week at the National Sports Center in Blaine.
Eden Prairie posted a 3-2-1 record and won the B bracket of the Under-17 girls Silver Division in the USA Cup tourney July 15-19. EP defeated the New Prague Trojans 2-1, Euro FC 2-1 and CMYSA 2-0. The locals tied the North Metro Vipers 1-1 but lost 1-0 to the Sault Civics (Canada) and 5-2 to the Caledonia Warriors.
The team was coached by Brad Brubaker and Nathan Brubaker. Joanie Koebnick served as the squad’s manager.
Members of the Eden Prairie Under-17 USA Cup squad were Katy Becker, Alexa Davis, Raina Forcier, Maddie Koebnick, Emma Lickteig, Ali Muffenbier, Amy Reimer, Shayna Salloway, Brooke Stanley, Mackenzie Tommins, Sarah Verdoorn and Avery Vittoria. EP Under-17 team had three USA Cup guest players. Those additions were Rebecca Brubaker, Elizabeth Kodet and Eva Horseman.
Other members of the Eden Prairie Soccer Club Under-17 team were Haley Blahnik, Rachel Blixrud, Sarah Kuntz and Adrianna Tan.
“The team had a very positive experience in the USA Cup,” said coach Nathan Brubaker. “For most of the girls, it was their first time playing in the USA Cup tournament.
“The girls had a great time meeting players from other states and countries while taking part in the USA Cup ceremonies and games.”
Eden Prairie entered the USA Cup after achieving success earlier this season. EP posted an 8-1-1 record in the Under-17 C2 West Division and won the district tournament while qualifying for state.
Eden Prairie tied St. Michael-Albertville during its first state tournament game July 20.
“Our team’s strengths are possessing the ball, playing sound defense and looking for creative attacks,” said coach Nathan Brubaker. “Our girls are very resilient.
“It has been fun watching this team come together during league play and tournaments because we have girls from many different high schools on the squad.”
