Two Republicans announce candidacy in District 49A

Republicans Polly Peterson Bowles and Dario Anselmo have thrown their hats in the ring against incumbent Rep. Ron Erhardt, D-Edina, in House District 49A.

Erhardt is running for re-election to his 11th non-consecutive term this November. He previously served the House District as a Republican until 2010. He was elected as a DFL-er in 2012.

House District 49B Rep. Paul Rosenthal, D-Edina, is seeking re-election for his second term this year, having been elected as a newcomer in 2012.

No Republicans have announced their candidacy in House District 49B, as of the Sun Current’s press time.

Peterson Bowles is a graduate of Edina East High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in 1981 and is a 1985 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School. Peterson Bowles, who was Miss Minnesota in 1981, is the daughter of former House Rep. C. Donald Peterson. She and her husband Don have four children.

This will be Peterson Bowles’ second attempt to receive the Republican endorsement for the District 49A seat. She previously sought and lost the GOP endorsement in 2012.
