Edina Reads hosts writing contest

The Edina Reads Committee is sponsoring a writing contest as part of Edina’s 125th birthday celebration.

Entries will be judged on the extent to which they creatively portray Edina’s history or community nature. A $500 first prize and $250 second prize will be awarded to both youth and adult writers. The awards will be presented and excerpts from the winning works will be read by the author or designated reader at an Edina Reads program on Nov. 18.

The contest is open to anyone who lives or attends school in Edina or has done so in the past. Fiction and nonfiction work are eligible in the form of biography, memoir, poetry, lyric, script or short story. The work can’t exceed 3,000 words or have been previously published to the general public.

Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. Oct. 1, to [email protected] or by hand delivery to the Edina Library, 5280 Grandview Square. Submissions will not be returned.
