Richfield High School DECA gets elite honor again

For the second year in a row, Richfield High School’s DECA team has received national honors for its school store, Spartan Avenue.

DECA’s school-based enterprise program (SBE) recently gave the Richfield students’ store its Gold Level certification. The honor means members of the DECA team will attend the DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim April 24-27.

The group took sixth place last year out of 119 teams as team members outlined their Spartan Avenue project for judges. All the schools at the event had received Gold Level certification, which meant they demonstrated professional-level operating standards in six categories.

With over 200,000 individual members nationwide, more than 5,000 school participate in DECA. The program’s director at RHS is Dean Breuer, who is among 135 candidates nominated for the 2013 Minnesota Teacher of the Year award, as given by Education Minnesota, the state’s teacher union.
