Richfield, HA enter playoffs after recording wins

Its section boys hockey playoff time as Richfield and Holy Angels compete in different sections this week. Both teams ended the regular season with wins last week.
Richfield, 6-18-1 overall, is the 11th seed in the Section 2A tournament. The Spartans played sixth-seed Chaska in first-round action Feb. 19. Winner of that game advances to the Section 2A quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Parade Ice Garden against third-seed Delano.
Richfield concluded its regular season by defeating Dodge County 7-2 Feb. 16. Jack Stellon and Drew Saastad scored two goals each for the winners. Other goals were provided by McCoy Jessen, Kody Ahlstrand and Alexander Maki. Goalie John Meyer made 29 saves to preserve the win.
“We played well defensively and did a good forechecking job,” said Richfield coach Mark Johnson. “We also played with discipline and stayed out of the penalty box.”
North St. Paul beat Richfield 10-1 Feb. 14 as Kevin Ahlstrand scored with assistance from his brother Kody. Meyer finished with 30 saves.
St. Thomas Academy blanked Richfield 16-0 Feb. 12. Meyer shared goaltending duty with Zach Ulmer. The Spartan pair combined for 37 saves.
Stars are fifth seed
Holy Angels won two games last week to finish its boys hockey season with a 13-11-1 record. The Stars earned the fifth seed in the Section 2AA playoffs.
The Stars will play fourth-seed Jefferson at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Bloomington Ice Garden. Winner of that game advances to the semifinals against either No. 1 Edina or No. 8 Shakopee at noon Saturday, Feb. 23, at Braemar Arena.
Championship game is 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Mariucci Arena.
Holy Angels defeated Shakopee 7-1 Feb. 12. as Tommy Sullivan and Frankie Mork recorded hat tricks. Marshall Barnes scored the other Stars goal. Goalie Zach Mains finished wih 20 saves.
Mork came through with another hat trick to spark Holy Angels to a 5-3 win over Chanhassen Feb. 14. Owen Larson and Barnes provided one goal each. Mains stopped 20 Chanhassen shots.
