Kennedy girls retain No. 1 basketball ranking

Bloomington Kennedy is excelling at both ends of the court while retaining its No. 1 ranking among state Class 4A girls basketball teams.
The Eagles improved their record to 18-2 with a pair of triumphs last week. Kennedy defeated Lakeville North 49-33 Jan. 29 as Jasmyn Martin scored 12 points. Jade Martin finished with 11 points. Lashayla Wright-Ponder and Tonoia Wade scored nine points each. Kiara Russle netted six points.
Kennedy had four players score in double figures as it defeated Apple Valley 73-60 Feb. 1. Those Eagle scorers were Jade Martin (18), Jasmyn Martin (16), Wade (16) and Russell (12).
Kennedy will play Apple Valley at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 on the road before returning home to face Prior Lake at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5.
The Eagles are first in the South Suburban Conference with a 12-0 record.
Boys achieve split
Bloomington Kennedy’s boys basketball squad attained a South Suburban Conference split last week. The Eagles defeated Lakeville North 71-67 Jan. 29 as four players scored in double figures.
Dejon Davis was Kennedy’s top scorer with 23 points. Other leading Eagle scorers were Connell Lewis, Jr. (18), Tra Hearns (13) and Jumah’ri Turner (10).
Kennedy is 6-12 overall and 3-7 in the conference after losing 83-76 to Apple Valley Feb. 1. Turner netted 27 points and Davis came through with 20 points. Hearns added 11 points.
