Eagle skaters seek strong regular-season finish

Eden Prairie will attempt to improve its record in order to secure a high section tournament seeding this week as it battles two Lake Conference boys hockey foes.
The Eagles, 11-11-1 overall, will host Minnetonka at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, and travel to Edina for a 3 p.m. game Saturday, Feb. 16.
Eden Prairie split a pair of games last week. The Eagles lost 3-2 to Benilde-St. Margaret’s Feb. 9 as goalie Andrew Sprang stopped 27 Red Knight shots. Andrew Knudsen and Mason Bergh scored EP goals. Steven Spinner had two assists. Bergh was credited with one assist.
Eden Prairie defeated Wayzata 4-2 Feb. 7 at goalie Jake Gerdes made 23 saves. Bergh scored twice for the winners. Colton Schmidt and Harry Pajor came through with the other two Eagle goals.
Eden Prairie blanked Hopkins 10-0 Feb. 2 as Spinner came through with a hat trick. Michael Graham and John Sullivan scored two goals each. Schmidt added one goal. Goalie Jake Kielly made 22 saves.
“I’m proud of the way our guys are battling,” said Eden Prairie coach Lee Smith. “It’s been disappointing to play well in some games we have lost.
“We have to learn how to close out games.”
