Eagles extend winning streak to 11
Eden Prairie head girls basketball coach Chris Carr is more interested in team improvement than winning streaks. But the Eagles’ 11-game victory streak is a testament to the fact that Carr’s team is making considerable progress.
Eden Prairie boosted its record to 13-2 while winning three times last week. The Eagles are ranked eighth in the state (Class 4A).
Eden Prairie’s unbeaten streak will be tested in the coming week. The Eagles play host to Lake Conference rival Wayzata at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25.
EP will travel to Minneapolis to face defending state 3A champion DeLaSalle at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. The Eagles return home for a Lake game against Minnetonka at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29.
“We are playing much better together as a team than we were earlier in the season,” said coach Carr. “We are getting in stride but need to keep improving because we are going to be playing tough Lake Conference opponents in the next few weeks.”
Eden Prairie jumped to a 39-14 lead over Holy Family Catholic Jan. 19 and finished with a 62-28 victory. Annie Thul topped the Eagle scoring attack with 16 points. Cassy Saxton finished with 11 points. Samantha Trammel also scored in double figures (10). Esabelle Levine and Tayler Brekke scored six points each.
Eden Prairie beat Owatonna 61-47 Jan. 17. Three Eagle players scored in double figures — Jayla Mayes-Jackson (17), Trammel (16), Saxton (11) and Emma Boehm (8).
“Boehm has really stepped up and helped us both defensively and offensively,” said coach Carr. “She thrives in her defensive specialist role.
“And Boehm has been averaging about 10 points during the past six games. She is a hard worker.”
Eden Prairie defeated Superior (Wis.) 66-48 Jan. 18 on the road. The Eagles’ leading scorers were Trammel (17), Thul (13) and Boehm (11).
Boys net 11-2 record
Eden Prairie won a pair of boys basketball games last week to improve its record to 11-2. The Eagles are ranked sixth in the state (4A).
Andre Wallace scored 16 points as the Eagles defeated Waconia 65-49 Jan. 17. Anthony Anderson netted 10 points and Grant Shaeffer provided eight points. Other Eagle leading scorers were Alex Ihrke (7), Sam Johnson (6) and Caleb Wragge (6).
Eden Prairie earned a 64-54 triumph over Mukwonago (Wis.) Jan. 19.
The Eagles will play DeLaSalle at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, on the Islanders’ home court. Eden Prairie travels to Minnetonka for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday, Jan. 29.
