Applicants sought for Edina boards, commissions

The Edina City Council is accepting applications for 2013 appointments to its advisory boards and commissions.

Advisory boards and commissions with vacancies include two openings on the Edina Art Center Board, four on the Community Health Committee, four on the Construction Board of Appeals, one on the Energy and Environment Commission, four on the Heritage Preservation Board, two on the Human Rights and Relations Commission, one on the Park Board, one on the Planning Commission, and one on the Transportation Commission.

Most volunteer positions are three-year terms, though there are a few partial terms to be filled.

“For me, the best part of being on a board is working with other people of the same commitment,” Art Center Board Chair Hafed Bouassida. “Anyone who is passionate about any of any aspect of city government should, at some point, probably get into one of those boards. That’s the best way to be influential, as a citizen, in what is happening in your city.”

Applicications must be received at Edina City Hall by 4:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1.

All of the appointments must be approved by the Edina City Council. The council intends to interview all applicants and interviews are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Feb. 7, Feb. 11 and Feb. 20.

Appointments will be made in March.
