Richfield Police responded Sunday, Dec. 9, at 10:56 a.m., to a home in the 7300 block of Garfield Avenue South, Richfield.
Upon arrival, two neighbors led officers to an in-ground swimming pool where an 8-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl were in the water. The girl had fallen into the pool and the boy had entered the pool in an effort to help her. The pool was uncovered and was partially filled with water. Two police officers and the neighbors got the children out of the pool.
The girl was unconscious and CPR was performed. Both children were transported to HCMC. The girl is in critical condition. The boy was not injured and was transported as a precaution. The children are cousins.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and is investigating the incident.
