Update: Man killed in Richfield officer-involved shooting identified

Investigators enter a home at 6636 Park Ave. S. in Richfield, where an officer involved shooting reportedly occurred Friday morning.

The 6600 block of Park Avenue South in Richfield was taped off Friday afternoon as Richfield Police and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office  investigated a fatal officer-involved shooting.

According to a Hennepin County Sheriff’s news release, Richfield Police responded to a report of a man with a knife at a house at 8:53 a.m., shooting and killing the armed man.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner announced Sunday that Jeffrey Michael O’Connor, 25, died of multiple gun shot wounds at his residence, 6636 Park Ave. S., at 9:10 a.m. The medical examiner called the manner of death a homicide.

No further details from the incident have been released, but Mark Miguel, who runs a  nearby automotive shop, said one of his drivers reported hearing three gunshots. Sheriff’s Office personnel could be seen going in and out of 6636 Park Ave. S., a yellow rambler, in the hours following the shooting.

The shooting occurred in what residents called a quiet neighborhood. “You don’t even hear people yelling at their kids,” said one man who lives in a nearby apartment complex, as he stood near the scene.

The incident is still under investigation.
