From Feb. 27 to March 4 members of the Lakeville Fire Department responded to 12 calls for service; one mutual aid to Farmington for a structure fire, one extrication of a victim from a vehicle, one passenger vehicle fire, three medical calls, three down power lines, one smoke scare, and two false alarms.
Fire Prevention Tip
LFD: Daylight savings time is a good time to replace smoke detector and carbon monoxide batteries. To keep your family safe from fire, remember and make use of the following tips:
- Every month, test your smoke alarms by pushing the "test" button, following testing instructions in your owner’s manual.
- Once a month, carefully vacuum the inside of a battery-powered unit using a soft bristle brush. If your alarms are electrically connected, turn off the power and only vacuum the outside vents. Test your alarms after cleaning them.
- Smoke alarms don’t last forever. Those more than 10 years old should be replaced.
